Elections in Gujarat are being conducted since 1962 into elect the members of the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha and the members of the lower house of the Indian Parliament, the Lok Sabha. There are 182 Vidhan Sabha constituencies and 26 Lok Sabhaconstituencies in the state.




The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and the Indian National Congress(INC) are the most powerful parties in the state. Other parties which have been influential in the past include Swatantra Party, Praja Socialist Party(PSP), Indian National Congress (Organisation)(NCO), Janata Party, Janata Dal, Janata Dal (Gujarat)(JDG) and Rashtriya Janata Party(RJP).




It is worth noting that Gujarat was a part of the erstwhile Bombay State till 1960.

It is a battle of ballots, not a battle of bullets. All those who are eighteen years of age have a right through vote. They hold public meetings and explain the programs of their parties.Election in India: In Democratic India, general elections take place every five years. But this battle is fought in a peaceful way. A number of candidates seek the election. An election, therefore, is like a battle. If they get majority of votes, they win; but if they live not, they lose. They move from door into door.

This is true of elections, too. Those who work hard get good marks. They never forget their voters.But in one sense an election is a kind of examination. They care for the welfare of the people. agreeable students prepare hard for their examinations. So, they get elected without much difficulty. There are good and honest leaders. But those who never care for their books, fail.

* MSP for service officers more than doubled to Rs 15,500 per month from Rs 6,000 currently; for nursing officers to Rs 10,800 from Rs 4,200; for JCO/ORs to Rs 5,200 from Rs 2,000 and for non-combatants to Rs 3,600 from Rs 1,000




* Short service commissioned officers will be allowed to exit the armed forces at any point in time between 7 to 10 years of service




* Commission recommends abolishing 52 allowances; another 36 allowances subsumed in existing allowances or in newly proposed allowances.




* Recommendations will impact 47 lakh serving govt employees, 52 lakh pensioners, including defence personnel.
